Arthur Jones was quoted once as saying, "If you want to know how to train a racehorse, you don't ask the racehorse..."

As if Michael Jordan's coach could beat him in a game of one-on-one. Or Tiger Woods' coach could outshoot him at Pebble Beach.

Trainers and coaches are important in the expertise and the impartial third-person POV they they bring to the table. NOT because they happen to be more skilled/better/faster, etc than the individual they are coaching.

Great post. good job of overcoming initial reservations.

The older woman is stuck in her old frame (belief/ way of looking at it).

Obviously she is using old references to form her belief.

2 things I'd like to note here.

1) Does this frame/ belief that she holds support her in her descisions? I'd say no. If you had not been persuasive, she would have lost a great trainer.

2) Often, the better coaches often do NOT have the biggest or best physique or natural skill.

Ask Joe Torre to go out and take Derek Jeter's spot...
