And I thought I was imagining it! For over a year I've been using a cycler for 1hr 30mins every day and had very slow progress, even with a decent diet. When I got a weights bench in my room and lift 50 x 30kgs every time I pass it I toticed a real difference to body fat levels.

Not necessarily.

There's evidence to suggest that the growth hormone release during the fasting period of an intermittent fast protects against muscle catabolism. You don't get this GH release when you simply "skip meals" because the time frame isn't right; it's too short to allow for the body's "fast" response, but too long if you're fueling up regularly.

Your body times hormone release based on food intake patterns. If you feed it every three hours, you can reasonably expect that come that third hour, it'll slowly up HCL production and amylase will become more present in saliva. Skipping a meal in this scenario will cause a negative hormonal response - major blood glucose drop.

According to Dr. Mike Eades and Robb Wolf, muscle catabolism is not a concern unless the fasting period exceeds 24 hours or the individual has extremely high energy demands (i.e., an athlete). It's not something I'd do regularly, but I've recommended IF to several colleagues and clients to great result.

You can't have it both ways. Either intermittent fasting is a good thing , or skipping meals is bad.
